JOB PURPOSE

Tooling (Mold) Repair Technician supports the production schedule by performing regular maintenance and repair activities on plastic injection molds and related tooling equipment. This includes executing mold repairs, preventative maintenance, and machining operations to ensure molds remain in optimal running condition for manufacturing operations.

 

YOUR JOB

As a Tooling (Mold) Repair Technician, your primary responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining and repairing plastic injection molds and ensuring equipment is in optimal working condition.
  • Performing preventative mold maintenance and accurately estimating repair times.
  • Conducting mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting and repairs related to molds/tooling.
  • Reading and interpreting technical drawings and schematics.
  • Operating all tool room machinery and executing machining requests to specifications.
  • Assisting with mold setups, removals, and production startups.
  • Identifying molding defects and recommending corrective actions.
  • Ensuring inventory levels of replacement parts are maintained.
  • Following all Lock Out/Tag Out procedures, internal safety policies, and OSHA standards.
  • Keeping accurate records of tool repairs and changes.
  • Maintaining high housekeeping standards and participating in team-based problem-solving and root cause analysis.

This position requires flexibility for overtime and participation in an on-call rotation every 6–7 weeks.

 

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Technical Degree in Tool & Die Mold Making, Mechanical Technology, or Machining Technology is preferred.

Minimum Experience:

  • At least 4 years of experience in servicing and repairing tooling/plastic injection molds in a manufacturing environment.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and experience with hand tools.
  • CNC machining knowledge and basic electrical skills.
  • Ability to read technical drawings and use precision measuring tools.
  • Understanding of thermoplastic molds, hydraulics, pneumatics, and basic plastic processing.
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks (preferred) and basic computer proficiency.
  • Good communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently.

Certifications/Training:

  • Lock Out/Tag Out and SA forklift training completed.
  • Must be physically able to lift up to 50 lbs., stand, kneel, crawl, and work in various environmental conditions.
